There was a second murder of a U.S. citizen by ICE agents in Minneapolis on Saturday, this time of Alex Pretti, a 37 year old ICU nurse. The brutalization and illegal capture of our immigrant neighbors continues.

We need to act. We need to keep up the pressure.

There are FIVE THINGS YOU CAN DO NOW:

1. Call Your Members of Congress (switchboard) at

(202) 224-3121 and demand the following.

(Here is a sample script for you to use):

Hello, my name is [NAME], and I’m a constituent calling from [CITY, STATE].

I’m calling to urge you to hold the line during DHS negotiations and support clear, unified demands that restore accountability and protect the public.

First, I am demanding no additional funding for ICE in any DHS bill. Not one more dollar should be approved without enforceable limits and accountability.

Second, ICE agents must be held to the same identification standards as police. I am demanding a full ban on masks and a mandatory, visible name badge requirement, with no loopholes or discretionary exceptions.

Third, I am calling for the immediate withdrawal of ICE from Minnesota. What is happening there is unacceptable and must stop now.

Fourth, Congress must hold immediate public hearings on ICE-related killings and violence. These abuses demand transparency and oversight.

Fifth, Congress must prohibit the president from militarizing American cities or deploying federal agents without explicit invitation or consent from state leadership.

Sixth, federal agencies must be barred from retaliating against elected officials or civilians who challenge administration policies. This is a dangerous abuse of power.

If your Representative is a Republican, end with this: “These are reasonable, achievable demands, and I expect you to work together to secure them.” OR

If your Representative is a Democrat, end with this: “These are reasonable, achievable demands, and I expect Democratic leadership to stay unified and use their leverage to secure them.”

   1. Demand the impeachment of Kristi Noem, Secretary of the Department of Homeland Security

   2. Urge your Senator to vote NO on the funding bill that would increase the budget for ICE and the Border Patrol. It has already passed the House with 7 Democrats joining the Republicans.

   3. Demand that your Representatives and Senators push back on the illegal and inhumane practices demonstrated by DHS with ICE and the Border Patrol not only in Minneapolis but in LA and Chicago; and now they are moving into Maine and targeting the Somali people.

Subject: Hold the Line on DHS — Clear, Unified Demands Required

I am a constituent from [City, State], and I am writing to urge you to hold firm during the upcoming DHS negotiations and support a clear, unified set of demands that restore accountability and protect the public.

Democratic leadership must use its leverage to secure meaningful concessions, not reopen the government without gains. I am calling on you to support the following six concrete demands:

1. No additional funding for ICE.
   No new DHS funding should include additional money for ICE without enforceable limits and accountability measures in place.

   Federal agents should not be deployed in communities without explicit invitation or approval from state leadership.

6. End retaliation against elected officials and civilians who challenge federal policy.
   Federal agencies must not be used as tools of intimidation or political punishment.

These are reasonable, achievable demands. I expect Democratic leadership to remain unified and to use its leverage to secure real accountability rather than conceding without results.

I will be closely watching how you and your colleagues proceed.
